Band History

Eight Seconds is a high-energy country band that delivers a show that speaks to music lovers of all kinds.

“We’ve heard numerous people comment, ‘I don’t like country music, but I love 8 Seconds,’ ” says Mike Flack, who takes the lead on vocals and also plays guitar.

Attend an 8 Seconds show, an it is immediately apparent that each of the band members loves music and enjoys playing in front of a crowd. It’s equally as obvious that the crowd loves being there to take it all in.

The band was first formed in 2001. Mike left the band in 2007 to pursue other interests, but decided to start the band up again in late 2008.

“Upon my return to the local music scene, I decided to rebuild 8 Seconds with some of the finest musicians the area had to offer,” he says.

Brian Troester joined him on guitar/vocals, Heather Warren on vocals/keyboard, Jim Lee on bass/vocals, Michael Jensen on drums and Tim Fry sound and light tech.

“Since then, we’ve managed to regain and build upon our loyal fan base as well as push the boundaries of our music.”

The band may be locally based, but they’re no strangers to big-time gigs. They’ve opened for nationally known country acts like Dierks Bentley, Teri Clark, Jason Aldean, Josh Gracin, Andy Griggs and Tracy Bird. They’ll add Randy Houser to the list Sept. 10 when they open for him in Iowa City.

One of Mike’s favorite memories is of watching of the big-name acts they’d opened for climb out of their tour bus window to secretly sneak away and “go party up the town.”

“That is something I think we all would do,” Mike says.

Although 8 Seconds is currently mostly a cover band, the've also added originals to their lineup in the last year or so.
