Description

The Iowa Theatre Artists Company marks the centennial celebration of this prolific songwriter by extending their 2011 production of “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” in Amana, March 22 - 25. The original cast of seven performers who sing, play guitar, banjo, fiddle, among other instruments and serve as the narrators of Woody’s story, will be returning for this extended production. The “All Iowa” ensemble of actors/singers/musicians includes: Meg Merckens (South Amana), Paul Roberts (Sharon Center), Randy Sandersfeld, (Amana), Joy Ward (Tiffin), Ryan Westwood (Bettendorf), Mark Wilson (Hills) and Karenza Yoder (Kalona). This production was directed by Thomas P. Johnson, with music direction by Mark Wilson, assisted by Randy Sandersfeld. Diana Nollen’s August 2011 review in the Cedar Rapids Gazette stated; “Woody Guthrie’s American Song” may very well be the best ensemble show I’ve seen on the Iowa Theatre Artists Company stage.”
