Description

Join your Marion Hy-Vee for our Chefs in Training Cooking Camps where you will participate in fun nutrition activities and learn how to make scrumptious snacks! Junior Chef Camps are intended for children ages 9-13. Registration is required. Session 4: July 23-27
Morning Session: 9 a.m. to Noon; Cost: $15/day or $70/ full week
Afternoon Session: 1 to 2:30 p.m.; Cost: $10/day or $45/full week

Monday, July 23: Food Science Experiment
Have you ever wondered why things work the way they do? During this class we will use our senses to look at foods in a whole new way by using sight, sound, taste, touch and smell to discover new flavors. We will also answer science questions such as what makes bread rise, how do plants grow, what foods help fuel our bodies and more!

Tuesday, July 24: The Wild Wild West
Giddy-Up cowboys and cowgirls as we round up some tasty treats in this western inspired cooking class. From cowboy crafts and cactus cucumbers we will guide you step-by-step through the wild-wild-west.

Wednesday, July 25: Celebrity Chef Showdown
We’re cooking up some culinary fun with recipes of Michael Symon, Cat Cora, Aaron Sanchez, Alexandra Guarnaschelli, and Richard Blaise during these camp sessions. Don’t miss the tasty adventure into the cookbooks of some of the most popular chefs on television!

Thursday, July 26: Lazy Day Lunches
I’m guessing your summer days are not too lazy… you’re on-the-go with swimming and fun in the sun with friends and family. In this class, you’ll get to prepare some recipes that would be great for lunch during your busy summer.

Friday, July 27: Escape to the Tropics
This class will be paradise for your senses! We will enjoy the naturally sweet, refreshing taste of tropical fruits and combine them in dishes where intense fruity flavors and aromas meet versatility and nutrition. We will try new foods like mangoes and papayas and even learn how to open a fresh coconut!
