Brazilian singer-songwriter Ricardo Coen’s second album, américo is the result of an international collaboration between musicians from Brazil, Italy, and the U.S. This music bears resemblance to the iconic samba jazz pioneered by João Gilberto and Stan Getz in the 1960s. It draws from the energy of Caetano Veloso, the lyric genius of Chico Buarque and folkloric rhythms of Baião, Samba and Afoxé. But Rica's songs are fresh, and his band honors these rich traditions without being encumbered by them.
