Carolyn grew up on a farm outside Iowa City, and began her musical career singing with her fathers dance band, The Drifters. At 16 she signed with Bettco Records of Rock Island and went to Nashville to record a single, "Keep em for a Hobby", which was backed by the Jordanaires, Elvis Presley's backup group.
